Creating Buzz for a Festival-Fave Short Film

All the Laurels

The director of The Five Wives & Lives of Melvyn Pfferberg, Damian Samuels, who loves Mel Brooks and the look of comedy posters of the 1970’s era, asked me to create a poster for his short film. He needed space so that we could add lots of laurels – eventually it was 12!

A Short Film with a Long Name and Lots of Talent

The project quickly expanded from being a poster to social media, website, cast sheets, press packages, end frame for the trailer, cast screening and more. We played on the immense amount of talent featured in a 17 minute film (more than 20 actors plus 15 children!) for our first social media executions.

It’s in Vogue

The cast and crew screening of the film at The Mayfair Hotel had so many people accepting their invite, the film was shown twice — and there was coverage in the national press.

Fancy The Pfferberg Punch?

We featured the drinks of our sponsors in specially designed beverages that went with the theme of the film. Badges were worn with pride and we had a balloon company that provided balloon sculptures as room dressing and created the five wives and Melvyn to use as part of a photo stand which encouraged attendees to poster their photos.

Spice Up Your Life — Download Laughs

After the film festivals, the film was launched for purchase which we promoted through social media and also created more personal executions to send to the actors, investors, etc., for them to share on their social feeds — such as ‘I’m a filmmaker’ — and the obligatory ‘save the date’.

Neck and Neck with Frozen

At one point Melvyn was at the top of the Apple’s list of short film downloads, beating Frozen Fever. We capitalised on that battle in the social media channels (scroll down for the last image).

During lockdown, the film was put on YouTube for free so people could at have 17 minutes of laughter in their day.
