Illuminating the Heart of the Creative Industries
This March the spotlight was on the Chelsea Centre. I worked with students studying Foundation Art in the role of creative director for an installation in the foyer of the centre that was on brand, impactful, in budget, approved and a reality.
The launch was 31 March with an ‘illumination’ evening where they turned on the LED sign in the middle of an event for members of the community, students and staff.

Unveiling a Graffiti Wall at the Heart of a Community Event

Bringing Life Back to a Centre Still ‘Open for Business’
So proud to have had the opportunity to mentor a Kickstart employee, Dino Dallevacche, at Morley College London’s North Kensington Centre for a project to inject some life, brightness and the sense the centre was open for business in the midst of their massive redevelopment project.
I worked with Dino from the start up until the big launch last week. Obviously an outdoor project to this scale — 36 metres wide — takes a lot of work and planning, and approvals where I worked with the head of communications and chief marketing officer to get this work approved.
The design reflects the community bringing the Morley Heart Gardens by Tayshan Hayden-Smith and Grenfell into Morley messaging — including a ‘graffiti wall’ that unveiled prior to an open event at the college. The street artists added their finishing touches, the centre principal gave a speech and refreshments were enjoyed in the canteen followed by the potential learners touring, speaking to staff and enrolling.
The Kickstart scheme gives 16–24 year olds meeting certain criteria six-month jobs with employers. It gives them a chance to experience a career path and build experience. Such an amazing initiative and really lovely to get a thank you message from him saying that he’ll “remember me years down the line when he’s a fully fledged graphic designer.”
